1. Templer Park Rainforest Retreat | Rawang, Selangor

The view is really something, isn’t it? Great for larger groups, choose to stay in the Villa (16 persons maximum) or the Container (30 persons maximum). Meditate on the viewing decks while taking in the amazing scenery of the Kanching Rainforest Reserve, before going for a dip in the infinity pool, which comes with a jet spa and a 600mm deep splash pool. Cooking utensils, fire starters, barbecue pits, steamboat pots and gas stoves are provided for guests to use, and the nearest Tesco is only eight minutes away. Nature photographers should look out for the colourful tropical birds, monkeys, monitor lizards, squirrels and large butterflies who call the surroundings home.

2. Balik Kampung Villa | Hulu Langat, Selangor

Under an hour’s drive away from KL city, the peaceful Balik Kampung Villa is a good choice for a short weekend staycation. There are two villas in total — Kala Villa for up to seven persons and the more intimate Jane and Tarzan Villa for two. Hike up Gunung Nuang, jungle trek at Sungai Congkak, or climb to the top of the waterfall at Gabai Falls, with each being a close distance from the villas. Room rates include breakfast grocery items such as eggs, milk, cereal, bread and fresh local fruits, as well as barbecue equipment and utensils. Amenities-wise, towels, toiletries and bathrobes are provided so all you have to do is bring some clothes, food for barbecuing, and yourself.

3. Sekeping Serendah | Serendah, Selangor

The picture shows a Glass Box room type, where it’s literally a glass box in the jungle. Amenities and furnishings are purposely kept to a minimum so guests can immerse themselves in the natural surroundings as much as possible Rooms vary in sizes and the largest space can take up to 14 persons at most — ideal for a quiet group getaway if that’s on your agenda. There isn’t an on-site restaurant, but there are barbecue pits available for you to cook your own meals. Otherwise, take a short drive out to the nearby local restaurants.

4. The Hooton Retreat | Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan

Less than 2 hours away from the hectic K.L city. The Hooton Retreat is a dome-style glamping site that is close to the main cities, but far enough for families & friends enjoy the crisp outdoor air and wonders of nature. The Hooton Retreat has spacious and minimalist tents, clean bathrooms, and cosy lounging quarters paired with campfire activities including barbecue and stargazing. The almost-transparents domed walls allow you to feel like you are really a part of nature during a family glamping and the moderna additions like fairy lights and the jacuzzi in the Honeymoon Dome Suite.

5. Sailor’s Rest Resort | Janda Baik, Pahang

Sailor’s Rest offers several room type options such as bungalows, chalets and actual tents, but we’d opt to stay in the boathouse for the novelty of it. Great for a team-building excursion, there’s a conference hall, field (dubbed by the retreat staff as a “playground”) and 10 unexpectedly stylish public toilets fitted with rain showers. The dining hall is a modern wooden structure in the middle of the pond and is great for group gatherings. The retreat also features a well-kept garden with mangosteen and durian trees — guests are welcome to pick and eat the fruits.
